This oil vignette on wood depicts a Navajo girl out in the vastness of her native world with a band of sheep. A. Kelly Pruitt got his start as a painter painting on rainbow sandstone he found on the Boquillos Ranch (North Rim of the Grand Canyon) where he worked supporting his young family. He painted on sandstone and wood for his entire life, enriching those who loved him and the work, but found his large oil paintings beyond their means.
